Ice Road
Faster than a horse!
You may have noticed on the map that place far to the South. It's about 3,000 nether-meters away from spawn. You may have no reason to ever visit there, but it's the mode of travel that makes the trip worthwhile.
We've built an ice road from the nether spawn area to take you there. In a boat. Place your boat on the ice and hop in. Start rowing and in about 1 minute you'll be there. Something like 40 m/s. It is the fastest land travel in minecraft. It makes minecarts seem very, very slow. A fun trip.
From the nether spawn portal, follow the track like you were going to the mesa, end portal #1 or Llama's. Sign for ice road on right.
Also a marker on the map.

Re: Ice Road
I've added mlite lights on one side of the ice road. Lights on right = away from spawn. Lights on left = towards spawn. Also the handy F3 GPS helps. #'s going up = away from spawn. #'s going down = towards spawn. Thanks for the pointing that out mlite.

Haha, and I was spending a lot of time trying to stay in the middle because I forgot boats don't break instantly anymore!
Re: Ice Road
Inner made 99% of it. I just visualized it. Props to him for building over 3000 blocks of lava!

Re: Ice Road
True Story.
Like many games, Minecraft doesn't really come with instructions. You learn as you go along. One of the things I was fully unaware of for hundreds if not a thousand hours was using the shift key to keep from falling. That didn't stop me from building bridges and elevated stuff in the overworld or in the nether. I just learned how to position myself right on the edge of blocks to place the next one. And oh yes, I fell a few times.
When somehow I learned about the shift key, it was like a magical hack. What?!? That's like cheating! That makes it too easy.
After the initial shock wore off I quickly developed a Lazy Left Little Finger* that now rarely leaves the shift key in game. I enjoy building at altitudes over lava. But yeah, I still fall on occasion.
That is all.
* Also a possible name for my future punk-rock cover band.
