Next Snapshot, Horses!

Post by Guardian » Fri Apr 19, 2013 10:13 pm

Interesting snapshot. I wasn't even interested in horses but they seem to be implemented well here. No doubt we'll have to go on an adventure to find some horses when this gets in the full game.

Also this particular video doesn't mention it but different horses have different speeds and donkeys can carry chests.

Definitely gonna need a horse breeding facility at spawn for everyone!

I wonder if we could create an event where we all go on a quest to find horses when the update hits.

Could add in a couple rules like hardcore or something... I don't know I'm thinking out loud.

Hmm, this is interesting:
Changed the idea of mob difficulty
Regional difficulty: The longer you spend in one area, the harder it gets
Scales with difficulty - Items, enchants or AI improve with difficulty
Looks like this might make idling in XP farms less effective.

Actually it sounds like the opposite... They'll be harder mobs the longer you stick around so if you afk in a Xp farm more mobs will spawn.

Depends if they mean more mobs or something else (increased health or attack power).

I am so disappointed, I was hoping horses would be another sink for my extra carrots. Instead, another use for wheat.

They could always change it later.

Also I just tried the snapshot and horses are really cool, I got around the terrain much faster then normal. I imagine I could do a tour of the ville's stuff after it's down.

I actually made my front entrance to my area horse friendly so if any villun manages to run over they can get through the gate seeing as I imagine they wouldn't be able to go through doors.

They really don't like people building stuff in this game anymore, do they? If you're working in an area, building a major project, instead of gradually reducing and eliminating the mobs in the area, you're going to get more and more powerful things to come destroy what you've worked so hard on? Screw that.

As Guardian says though, it does seem like it'll be beneficial for mob spawners, as you'll get better and better spawns.

My interpretation was that the mobs will be stronger, so when they fall to the collection point, they'll no longer be half a heart away from death. It might take more effort to harvest them. A single potion might not wipe them all out.

Ah, those are the XP farms. Mob spawners just kill things with lava so as to get the loot (at least so far as I've heard the terms applied). True that it could make the XP farms less efficient, though I don't know how much extra health is gained, or how much the potions do. If I recall correctly, the splash potion is overkill for things at half a heart, so you might have a bit of a cushion to work with, but that would need input from somebody more in to the alchemy side of things.

well, there is still the end xp farm, which I doubt this would affect too much.

I should note that all the horses seem to have randomized stats in terms of health, jumping and running speed.

Something tells me we're gonna need a horse breeding expert in order to get the best super horses.
