This is a big map. 17 hours in and I'm still about 6 hours away from finishing if my math is right and the speed stays constant. Unfortunately the outputted map is already over 9.5 gigs so I'm not sure I'm going to be able to upload it anywhere at this size anyways.

Obviously I need to change some settings to reduce the size, but I don't want to stop this initial render now that I'm so far in. Hopefully I'll have something for y'all in a few days.

Is that just a single png image, or is that the google mapping that Stevo's server had?

I've been working on the Google Map thing since I assumed everyone would prefer that. I may just give y'all a single overhead image in the mean time though.

My first attempt took 22 hours 35 minutes 49 seconds to render and the resulting folder is 15.62 GB! I'm now testing with smaller chunks of the map (what I should have done at first) and am trying to get the filesize down so I can actually upload it somewhere for everyone to use.

Here's the config I used: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18276140/minec ... Config.xml
It might be a good starting point. :)

Thanks Stevo, so it looks like we couldn't zoom in very close on yours (I can't remember, is it still online)? The default closest zoom level is 12 so 96 in your file has got to be a good deal "wider" view.

EDIT: Oh yeah, huge size savings by reducing the zoom level. Dropping from 12 to 24 cut my size by 119%. Of course we then all lose the ability to peep inside JD's windows but I guess that is the price to pay for efficiency!

You act like this is a negative, Flash. Methinks you don't have experience peeping in JD's window.

Never again. /shudders

:? So I had really planned to have the map uploaded for y'all by now, it is basically done. I'm on vacation over at my parent's house for a few days and unfortunately something has gone funky at my house and I can't get connected to my computer. I can connect to my VPN fine but then nothing so obviously something went wrong over there.

I'll be home Friday and will get it all finished. Thankfully any future updates to the map we get from Dog will be much quicker since it only has to render and upload any changes from this first run!

Thanks for rendering the map for us, Flash. It's been a while since we've seen what the map looks like.

The day is now Sunday! Definitely looking forward to that map. Seeing as I'm getting back into building things and running around.

OK the map is up! Link available above. Since everyone is interested in new things coming on August 1st in the 1.3 update I would advise everyone to avoid generating any new land before the patch. No reason to fill in any gaps before then!

EDIT: In the interest of size, I removed the "peep through JD's window" super close mode. I think the zoom level is a nice compromise though and kept the map a little over 800 MB. Unfortunately you can zoom out way further than needed but that shouldn't be a big deal.

Yup, I'm just clearing my ocean for a palace, that's all. No new land here.
