Apple is leveraging their mp3 player monopoly to break into the windows browser market.

How is that different from Microsoft leveraging their OS monopoly to break into the browser market, for which they have been fined billions?

you have IE on Apple and Mac, you have Firefox on Apple and Mac, and now Safari on Apple and Mac... take your pick.

Its not quite the same relly. You dont have to install Safari...there is no one there saying you must use Safari over IE or Firefox

That's funny, I just downloaded 3.1 for my little iBook that I am using right now. It seems a little faster, one of the things I love about Safari; each version gets faster, somehow.

Moving up to 3 was quite a difference. I still have Firefox for a few sites- the Google apps like Calendar and gmail used to dislike Safari, but they all work now, so I rarely use Firefox any more. 3.1 seems to add yet a little more speed. My understanding is that it's got a lot more to offer to devs as well.

I am not a 'power internet' user, so I don't need lots of plug ins and stuff. Just to be able to look at regular run of the mill content, like TheVille :D

Let me know if you want to chat about all the Apple hardware I have around here :P

I run Firefox on Ubuntu.
Would never run anything else.

After 28 years of working with computers, don't get me started on Apple and their business practices....

actually they released it for windows a while ago, but now they are trying to get everyone to install with their update software.

the government seems to be ok with apple trying for a monopoly. france and norway have both tried to force apple to allow music downloaded from itunes to be played on other music players other than ipods. and i heard the government actually backed apple against france.

after their last deal, i wonder if microsoft and mozilla will try to tag team apple lol. although i guess they wont need to, the average user will just stick with ie since it comes with windows and pretty much everyone that uses firefox will stick with that for the plugins alone.

I use itunes and such, but I would never even think about installing safari on my computer. I like firefox too much and I don't like the way safari is, for that matter i don't like the way Mac computers look on the desktop and their window management etc heh. I still despise IE more

Does Safari spellcheck?

It's one of the things I love about Firefox and why I'd never go back to IE....
