Random Access Memory

Post by regis » Fri Nov 24, 2006 6:38 pm

Right, so I have acquired my sister's old computer as a payment for helping her move out a couple of weeks ago. But it looks like it was stripped for a few parts. Had to pick up a new video card (AGP, yuck!) and it needs some new RAM.

I'm not planning on gaming on it at all, acutally I have plans to turn it into a light file server. OS will be Red Hat 7 or 8, not sure which I have...... Ok it's Red Hat Pro Version 8.0. I don't want to invest really that much into it. Would either 128 or 256MB suffice for a file server??

Yeah that's plenty as long as you don't run a gui. File servers don't need much memory. Disk speed is more important.
