External Enclosure

Post by regis » Mon Jul 16, 2007 10:25 am

Ok, so I was moving some files around on my external hdd and realized that I'm starting to get low on space. It's a 110GB drive, and it's about 50% full. Upon further inspection I noticed that I have about 45-50GBs of Operating Systems (99% Linux) as I like to test out different distributions.

Now, I have a secondary SATA hard drive sitting in my PC (about 160GB.) It's not even formatted and I figured might as well make it another external. I'm just not sure what external interface I want to use. The fall back is going to be USB, but I was wondering if anyone has had any good experiences with eSATA, IEEE 1394 (and possibly ethernet). I would like to try eSATA and I have the add-in card (even though I'm PRETTY sure they enclosure would come with one anyways,) since I don't see SATA disappearing anytime soon.

[edit]I was looking at something like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817424001) Nothing fancy really: USB and eSATA, as well as it has a fan.
