Finally bought this baby, I need a memory card!

Post by BigBiker05 » Tue Aug 02, 2011 8:37 pm

So after over a month of thinking of buying a gopro camera I finally did. I spent over an hour today playing with it at Best Buy, I came home to check Amazon for the hell of it and found it $60 cheaper so I spontaneously bought it.

Anyways, I'm looking to find a cheap 32gb memory card for it. I don't know much about cameras but I know memory cards have different speeds and what not. Here is some info on the camera if that helps. All it seems to say to me is it takes an up to 32gb memory card.

Thanks guys, will likely be buying from Amazon or Newegg. If you have suggestions for other retailers I am open eared. I have bought all electronic/computer stuff from Amazon/Newegg/Tiger Direct

Also, this is what it says in the company's FAQ
What size and type of memory card does the camera take?

The HD HERO camera supports SD/SDHC cards up to 32GB (any SD card over 2GB is considered a SDHC card). We recommend name brand SDHC cards with a class 4 rating or higher. The two cards that we mostly use in house, which work well are the Kingston and Patriot brand class 4 cards. We mostly use the 16GB class 4 card, as it gives you the most ‘bang for your buck’.
This is what I'm currently thinking:

I believe that class = speed. You'll need a class 4 or higher (class 6, 10...)

I just went through this memory bs a couple months ago when I bought my camcorder but don't remember all the details.

I'd suggest Lexar or Sandisk out of general preference for reliability.

Looking at the file sizes and bit rates, the camera seems to do a good bit of compression on the files, so a really fast card probably isn't critical, but you might want to bump up higher than Class 4.

Well it said in the FAQ they do most of their in-house testing on kingston and patriot class 4, so I bought a class 4 patriot.

I'm ready for tomorrow. Paintballing is going to be a bit different this week.

It's been hit 100s of times now, not a scratch on it. I've ran it through off-road races and it survived. It hasn't gone underwater yet. I guess I could always take it in the shower with me, I'm sure that'll go viral on youtube.
