I have seen some funky sizes (160, 240). 240 would be fine, but at a bare minimum I would do at least 160. That extra space on your SSD you can use for workflow with your pictures/video. After you are done editing them, you can dump them off to your larger storage drive.

Mobo seems like overkill, but fine beyond that.

Re: new computer build help
Well he said he wanted to stay AMD so there is that.
I think he gets a lot more for his buck with my build then with this one..
less ram overly expensive ssd weaker power supply.
Sounded like he had some parts to carry over already. The Nvidia 770 is not worth the price cost over a AMD 7950
http://anandtech.com/bench/Product/768?vs=829
CPU AMD FX-8320 Eight-Core Processor Black Edition $145
http://www.amazon.com/AMD-FX-8320-Eight ... rds=amd+fx
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX $138
http://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-GA-990FX ... 3%2B+990fx
Patriot Viper 3 Series Venom Red DDR3 16GB 1866MHz $120
http://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Viper-186 ... ddr+3+1866
Samsung MZ-7TD250BW 840 Series Solid State Drive (SSD) 250 GB $168
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MZ-7TD250 ... ywords=ssd
XFX AMD Radeon HD 7950 Core Edition 3GB GDDR5 $292 before $30 rebate ( seen these as low at 250ish no rebate)
http://www.amazon.com/XFX-DisplayPorts- ... s=amd+7950
Corsair CX750 Builder Series ATX 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Power Supply $90
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Builder-S ... wer+supply
$953 shipped for the above and prices were bad today nothing on sale really.
Choose a case of your preference likely already have a case and optical drive from some old build can get storage drives anytime on sale. No need for a separate cooler use stock.
imo

Re: new computer build help
I have 93% made up my mind. I am going to try out intel this time. I know I can cut some corners and save money with going with AMD but... I want to try something different. Decided to swap out a few parts, I was thinking about overclocking possibly, but I have no need to and don't really know how to, correctly. I should be 100% on my decision this weekend and then will order up the parts. thanks for all the help.

I've read the same, and would recommend that direction.Gizanked wrote:I have heard rumblings that if you are a big fan of console ports then getting an amd chip might be a good idea because both the ps4 and Xbone will be amd based.
Also saw this:

pretty exciting stuff, can't verify quality. If you go with 128, I recommend the SteamTool Library Manager to easily move games from SSD to HDD.

good luck!

Re: new computer build help
i don't plan on getting either of the 2 new consoles. I really love playing the games with keyboard and mouse. let alone needing to hook it up to my computer. whats the deal with hooking it to the computer? what will I get out of it?

the point is that for games originally designed for a console. if they make a PC version of it also then supposedly the ATI cards will run those game better because on the consoles they are designed to work with ati hardware.

I ordered parts for an intel build... didn't listen to a single one of you.....I have never had an intel build, so I wanted to try it for once...I had bean collection pocket change for 4+ years and my goal was to buy myself a new computer with the "free" money not, money from my bank account. ended up with just over $1300.00. pick up every piece of change on the ground when you see it. all parts are in the mail. pretty excited

Nobody takes the advice they ask for in these computer build threads, but I do still feel obliged to raise this point:
You mentioned overclocking -- don't do it. Even if you know how, it isn't worth it. You'll shorten the life of your components and void motherboard/cpu warranties. You spent a little more to get Intel, don't undermine what makes them better (stellar performance/compatibility/warranty service) for a few extra cpu cycles.
If you absolutely must overclock (you musn't), do invest in a high quality cooler -- if you skimp there, you'll be sorry.

I use Windows 7 and love it. However, I don't know much about Windows 8 except that I'm not a huge fan of the Metro interface. Hopefully one of our Windows 8 users here will drop by and give their opinion.chaffe[seagreens] wrote:no to determine if i should go win 7 or win 8.
