New router time
I'm moving this month, and will need a router for my new apartment. I do need wireless for the laptops. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Re: New router time
I've been using This Router for a while now, and I love it. Super easy to set up, everything both wired and wireless has worked instantly the moment I plug them in/turn them on. It comes with fantastic configuration options, security controls, user account choices, and more. Definitely worth it, in my opinion.

Re: New router time
I never hear the same thing twice about good routers from people or from reviews on the Internet. So, my best advice boils down to if it looks good, buy it.

Re: New router time
My default recommendation is a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato firmware. Amazingly stable. Been running it for years and have bandwidth logs going back to May 2010.
If you're looking for something a little newer/faster that supports 802.11N, based on reading (but not personal experience) would be the Asus RT-N16 running Tomato USB firmware.

Re: New router time
Any of them are fine really. As long as you keep them well ventilated and don't torrent 24/7 you should be good. I've had Netgear, Linksys, Actiontec, and everything else under the sun. They all get the job done. Some may lack certain features but if you are just looking for it to work than really any of them are fine. Find one in your price range.
Edit: IMO anything over $70 is a waste. Spend that extra money on beer.

I've been wanting to try out tomato but I don't want to give up my Actiontec Modem/router.

Re: New router time
The only bad experience I ever had was actiontec after it was being used for about 3-4 years. It was a really cheaper modem though.

Something you might try if you are up for it is setting up a Astaro Gateway on a spare PC, if you have one. Some people have great results with them, but the software can be a bit overwhelming if you don't know much about networking.
