Annoying steam issue

Know that you have to use the community thing i thought i might ask about this

When your in-game it tells you so-and-so is in game at the bottem right corner of your screen is there anyway to get rid of this (it lags me down)

Go to Settings -> Friends and uncheck all the notification options.

Of course the down side is now with TF2 out you need to be logged into friends if you want your name to be listed as something other than Unknown....

I think you can log out of Friends and set your name in the config file.
