I don't think there was an "official" designation for guilds when TVR started.

Long story short. . though it's actually not that long. . .in fact, this is all of it. . . TVR's formation. . . .

On March 10th 2003, an unguilded member, Typh00n, announced he wanted to create a competitive clan comprised of Villuns who were not already in clans/guilds here at TheVille. The group was officially dubbed [TVR] by Stevo on March 14th 2003.

From announcement of the concept, it took only 4 days to form the group and get a website up. Over time, TVR leaned away from competition but stayed at TheVille. After many many months of Stevo asking, (he asked A LOT lol) TVR was eventually granted official Ville guild status, gaining a forum and a permanent home here.

No one ever thought in a million years that tiny group would become what it is today. Cheers to TVR!

You got some of that right. TVR has never been competitive, even though Typh00n's original explanation described it that way. It seems like Typh00n lost interest fairly quickly and went inactive, so I sort of took over. Also, we didn't have to ask to be official, but we did ask for a forum. I'm not sure where the "official" status came from. As far as I know, BR is the first guild to ever get an approval to be a Ville guild.

Here's that announcement: http://villetest.guildeva.org/viewtopic.php?t=11205 :D

The "Official" title basically means (among other things) that a guild has been provided free forum(s) here and is fully endorsed/protected by theville.org. In turn, we do the same for this community. The only "special" case was with [BR]. Though Bakuru was a regular at TheVille during [BR]'s creation some friggen 9-10 years ago, the group was not created solely as a Ville based guild (thus no V in their tag). However their group has done a lot for this community over many years and thusly was voted in to join the other official Ville guilds. All of the Ville guilds were approved to be official Ville guilds whether by site owner or administration vote.

<eVa> - =US-V= - <TVB> - .TVR - [BR] are the official Ville guilds and no more will be added.

I read somewhere. . .

~60% of all clans/guilds die within 3 months

~90% of all clans/guilds die within 6 months

~5% of all clans/guilds last longer than 1 year

Of that 5%, we have 5 groups here that are at least 5 years old. Makes you wonder what is in the water at theville.org?

Most clans are just groups of 6 people who play in leagues. That's why they have such a short lifespan.

I also read that 90% of statistics are made up on the spot.

I think only 87.63% stats are made up on the spot.

I think that's goats Hamese. 87.63% of goats are made up on the spot. Jim's herd would comprise at least 80% of those goats.

Guardian - his argument holds a lot more water than you seem to think it does.

Competition will always lead to internal struggle, arguments, etc. TheVille, conversely, have went over five years strong with little to no problems. Why do you think that they've been against competition for so long?

Also, goats do bring people together. It's a known fact.

Well, it is true that many 'clans' are temporary associations assembled solely for the purpose of a particular competition, only a very rare selection of those will live much past the end of that event.

It's also true that very few server communities (outside of the corporate-sponsored) last more than a year or two. Even community-based groups aren't going to survive for much longer than their community does.

The games and places people play change so they move along, nothing wrong with that. What's in the water at the Ville is a continuous community that has managed to survive despite the changing flavor of game trends since 1999, very few communities survive a changeover in gaming as the Ville has over the years.

Usually a game dies out, it's adherents all find different games they want to play instead and they join or form new, different communities.

From what I understand there were some lean times in those years as well as fat ones like today. Stable ownership that keeps tweaking and improving with the times is also key. If The Ville was still a 24/7 Turkeyburgers server, there probably wouldn't be much community in 2009, but here we are with TF2, L4D, Dod, DoD:S PVKii, NeoTF. . . it's a testament to leadership and the community for keeping on.
