How often will one of those 2 choices get played though? Look at 9 now, it has sat empty the whole time it's been here, 'cept for the fun night we had.

Well while I don't play cod4 it seems like a sensible suggestion. On xfire its the second most played game behind WoW as far as hours go. I have played both of those particular mods and I didn't see them as very good games myself. Pirates and Vikings had good visuals and I could see it being fun but back when I played it there were a lot of bugs/exploits and it just seemed like a spam fest of garbage vs an organized game such as TF2. Insurgency seemed very well put together when I played it but I just didn't play it much so they may have improved it also.

If we get a PVK2 server, I can guarantee I'll be a regular. Not to mention, if well-admined, I can almost guarantee we'll pick up new folks who might not have played on any of the Ville TF2 servers. The only complaint about the game amongst the people that play it is lazy admins who let llamas run rampant on their servers.

Unless things are going to radically change, this is and always has been a HL community. I think the choices are limited to HL mods.

I've only played Beta 2 of PVK2 so I don't know what existed in previous builds, but I can assure you that I've spent hours playing the game and have yet to see a bug or exploit. As far as being a "spam fest of garbage," I couldn't disagree more. New people don't pick up the game modes right off the bat, but there's certainly more to it than death match. Perhaps if PVK2 was ctf or cp (there is actually one map that is cp-like) it would be easier for the new people to understand. It's very team-oriented. You just have to understand what's going on. I like the different game modes because it's new, different and interesting.

On the present version of Insurgency, I have seen plenty of bugs and exploits. Not to mention the crashes. I hope the next version will be an improvement, but I'm not holding my breath. I just don't know if there's enough that's interesting about the game. Apparently, many people feel this way because very few people are playing it.

I'm not going to get down on Insurgency. It just falls in a worn out genre of FPS at the moment. Even without the problems it has, it's still nothing special.

that's where we got all the _classic maps from, they were ported over to TF2 from FF.


As far as I know, both those games don't see much traffic.


If you're looking for a busy server CoD4 is your best bet (traffic wise). Im almost certain a PVK or Insurgency would be a waste of time. We might have fun on them every once n a while, but no way there would be a regular crowd on either.


Only draw back is they dont offer a free dedicated server for CoD4, you have to buy the $50 game to run the server - stupid! but it'd be worth it.... Ill gift the game to you if that's gonna be the deal breaker.

But if this server is going to benefit the villuns, how many of them have cod4? i know of 5 that have cod4, that means everyone is going to have to dish out 50-60$ just to enjoy that server. I'm not sure many want to do that. Not sure, but i plan on getting cod4.

I bought CoD4. It was entertaining for about two weeks. Haven't touched it since. Waste of money, IMHO.

That's what I've been reading other places. They get through the single-player, head into the multiplayer and all it is is Llama's and idiots on the servers and people just don't play it anymore. I'm not sure CoD4 would do well here.

Wouldn't hurt to give Pirates a try, see how the server does. We have like 3 servers now that usually sit empty, TFC, the Source one and 1.3 fills some nights, but not like it used to. That server itself is slowing declining as well.

Any other HL 1/2 mods out there that may bring some life back into the ville, besides the tf2 ones?

I have all the needed files on my server if you guys want to set up a CoD4 server. If that's what you decide I can give a link to transfer it to your server. If the server is rented from a GSP, however, they should provide everything you need to run the server.

I agree with DOW, though, the CoD4 multiplayer really isn't anything special.
