Left 4 Dead Lobby Creation

Post by CastleDoctrine » Fri Nov 14, 2008 3:36 pm

When I want to create my own lobby to play L4D with friends or with the public, I'm presented with two choices: "Dedicated" and "Local Server."

Being that you fellas are well enough informed, I have a few questions.

-What do this two choices mean?

-Under what circumstances should one be used instead of the other and why?

-In your experience, which is the better all around choice?

Thanks.

Usually dedicated means that you can't actually play on that computer. That you're just using it for a server, and not as a game machine. Local means you're doing both.

Dedicated means that it will search for a public dedicated server as opposed to you running the server locally off your machine.

So go dedicated.

If you go local, you will need to have a pretty powerful machine with a good Internet connection. Your computer will be running as both server and client or you will get lots of glitches and lag.

Hahaha, I always thought the terms meant the exact OPPOSITE thing.

Like, use your computer as the dedicated server or find a local server to run it on.

No wonder the lobbies I made would always end up being the one-bar party. c:
