Steam will not allow you to buy a game if your IP is within borders where the game is not allowed to be sold. I ran into that problem with buying certain games in China. I know MMX has that problem periodically with games that can't be sold in Germany due to Nazi imagery contained therein.
I think MMX has found ways of getting the games he wants to play, should you decide you want L4D2 you can probably talk to him about that.
Censorship in civilized countries shocks me. I keep hearing about it but it never ceases to be outrageous.
I agree though Flobee, I havent bought the first one. I may pick it up if it goes on sale for $20 or less.

yev, the swastika is banned in germany and a number of other countries, so ww2 games (and any others that use nazi imagery) have to be altered be be allowed for sale in those countries. dod devs removed it from german flag models/textures in later versions of dod beta for same reason.
WTF?!
that's one of the main reasons behind any WW2 game!

Conversion rates are great at the moment. It's a fantastic time to buy overseas. You're pretty much paying the same price as the US.
I don't get the FCC, there was once a woman who got arrested for swearing in her home under charges of "disturbing the peace". Plus if the rates of violence have really gone down since violent video games were mad popular, why should we ban them?
That's a complicated question. Firstly, the FCC does not operate in Australia. The FCC is a U.S. government agency.
The reasons for banning violent video games are numerous. Even though crime rates may be down, there are some who would say that the rates would be even lower if restrictions to violent media were put in place. Others would say that parents aren't talking with their children about these things and that children may get the idea that violence is an appropriate way to solve problems. Some just don't want to see violent content and would restrict it for everybody in order to protect themselves. And, sad to say, there are some who stand to gain power or wealth by (justly or unjustly) blaming violent games for any number of problems in society; by offering a simple explanation and workable solution, the people will elect them to solve the problem.
tl;dr Because the Australian Communications and Media Authority says so.

I was sort of doing that on a related note about the FCC. I know they don't operate in Australia. And I guess, come to think of it, watching people get slaughtered in games could make people who are extremely stupid try to see what that would really look like.

Always bear in mind, humankind by nature is self destructive.
No other living being does that, just humans (you may contradict me here, but they only fight for territory or food, etc)
regardless though, we arrnt going to mis out
