A good squad leader...
A good squad leader can make a huge difference. I played squad leader for the first time last night. I don't think I did anything impressive (not having a mic is a big disadvantage), but I did learn the squad leader menu and directed my team the best I could.
Familiarity with the maps is key. The objectives and purpose of a team varies with the map. I was lucky to have a few players stick with me.
Thoughts?

Re: A good squad leader...
Just giving everyone a direction makes a huge difference. Instead of being scattered all over the map, people are all working on the same objective.
Re: A good squad leader...
The problem I've had so far is that even if you put an objective for your squad, it seems like a lot of the time they don't even bother looking at it, or caputuring objectives in general. It just gets really frustrating when I send out a command to capture a point, then end up sitting there for five minutes while the rest of the squad is out deathmatching. Though that may just be me, who knows?

After careful consideration of this game, I decided to reluctantly download it. All I can say is: TOUGH GAME. Reminds me of the good ol DoD Beta days.
If you need a squad leader, I'll be your man. I think VOC can attest to my leadership qualities (). (Think moobies).
so having not played it yet it seems like a combination of NS and CS.. is this a good de.scription?
Not really. It has elements of BF2, early DoD betas, RO...I don't know. It's a fairly realistic squad-based FPS with a very minimal HUD (no health/stamina meter, no crosshairs but iron sights or from the hip)...
You're just going to have to play it, Giz.

Re: A good squad leader...
I've been practicing with squad leader. What I've been able to observe:
The squad leader needs to hang back (read "stay alive") to be effective.
Setting a waypoint between the spawn and the objective gives the team more cohesion by creating a rally point. Strength by superior numbers.
Calling in reinforcements is key. I haven't quite mastered this yet, but it is obviously necessary.
Using your mic to announce a surge etc. is very beneficial. (I fail at this )
