Using 3ds max with Source

Hey.

Im new Image

I know that was a hell of an intro and all, but I have a question that I have not been able to get answered after a fair amount of googling, and such.

Over the past year or so, I have been modding for another game, haloCE, which exclusively used 3ds max. So I have become used to using this to make all my content, levels/weapons/scenery etc. However halo is 7 years old now, and I moved to TF2. So I went and got the source SDK, and took some time to look through it, but I do not really know my way around it yet. So I figure I am better off asking someone around here.

So, what can I do with 3ds max in the source engine?

You need a SMD exporter for 3DS Max.
This one is for Max2008:

You can also look through CannonFodder's tools:

Once you have it in SMD format, read up on this:

I wish I could help ya, I have no experience with models. I know my way around hammer world editor though! Hit me up if you have any question.


Edit: The one time I did a model for souce (DODS) it was old HL1 model I ported over. I used milkshape to recompile it into the required .smd files.

Ive read through some of them but I can tell I am going to be here for a while trying to figure out hammer. Oh well, I have more than enough time to spend doing that.
