Helping 1.3 players
As more 1.3 players try out DoD:S, I thought it'd be handy to add hints and tips for the transition. Not hardware tips as these have been covered throughout this forum.
I'm talking about little things like how to get the console up or how to prime rifle nades...
No spam please. Keep it tips only.
So for example
How to get the console up
1. Press Esc > Options > Keyboard > Advanced
2. Tick both boxes
Setting up your config
1. Open C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\STEAMNAME\day of defeat source\dod\cfg
2. Config.cfg is the file where most client vars can be written. But it gets overwritten lots by Steam updates so instead, create a file called autoexec.cfg
3. To do this, open Notepad. Add the following:
hud_classautokill "0"
cl_enabledeathfilmgrain "0"
cl_enabledeatheffects "0"
cl_enablespectatoreffects "0"
bind "/" "play 0.mp3"
bind "`" "toggleconsole"
cl_restrict_server_commands 0
cl_chatfilters 31
scl_show_dmg 4
Explanation of above:
stops you dying each time you change class
stops death film effect
stop death effects
stops effects in spec mode
pressing "/" will kill victory music
binds "`" to bring up console
allows the server to run commands on your machine (if you want to vote etc)
turns on all chat
sets damage to show all details (stops menu appearing at start of game)
Save as "autoexec.cfg" and set File Types to "All Files" then save to C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\STEAMNAME\day of defeat source\dod\cfg folder
You may find it easier to download the one below and add it instead

bind "key" "Grenade"
alias "Grenade" "slot 5;bind mouse1 +gn"
alias +gn "+attack"
alias -gn "-attack;wait;voice_fireinhole;warn;norm"
alias norm "bind mouse1 +attack"
alias warn "say_team I'm at %l tossing a nade"
This bind warns your team mates of a grenade toss.
bind "key" "say You Losers Will Never Take Me Alive;kill"
This bind will relieve you of the stress of a violent and most assured death from the enemy when your team has the misfortune to lose a round. Best used just before your attacker inflicts the killing blow thus, maximizing his frustration level and enhancing your game enjoyment.

That pretty much covers it Dog.
To prime a rifle nade, pop it at your feet and pick it up (just like in 1.3)
This will feel natural but its fuse is alot shorter, so toss it quick!!!
...and some other source specific tips:
To prime regular frag nade, just click, hold, and release
You can set up an MG anywhere, not just on designated MG areas
The Kar kicks butt all over the garand (IMO)
The STG kicks butt on the BAR (IMO)
The smgs are pretty even (comparing mp40 vs tommy) THERES NO KNIFE/SHOVEL with smgs, just right click for melee (Hockey punch of death)
If you use fastswitch, rolling the wheel is opposite compared to 1.3 (Anyone know how to change that?)
The Allied zook comes with the best well rounded gun, the m1 carbine (semi auto, good at all distances), whereas the axis pschreck comes with a c96 autopistol which is really only effective at close range.
Keep HDR off, it looks pretty but it hinders your vision, and not everyone has it on. So, by leaving it on, you're giving the other guy an advantage (IMO) (kinda like cl_particlefx)
Oh and the best tip of all
bind x "say l3eeron is my best friend"

Re: Helping 1.3 players
Differences in Weapons
Rifles: Garand and K98 - Right Click will bring up Iron Sights, not rifle butt! You also get rifles nades, which are more accurate than ordinary nades and great for weeding out snipers.
SMGs: Thompson and MP40 - Right Click will punch. Smoke grenades actually work now since people can't turn off smoke effects. Very useful for sneaking past snipers...
SMGs: BAR and STG44 - Right Click sets single shot, which is supposed to be more accurate (but I've never noticed)....there are no bipods....
MGs: 30-cal and MG42 - As per DoD1.3, except that Rambo-ing is much, much harder...
Snipers: As per DoD1.3
Rockets: Secondary weapon is a Carbine on Allies or a C96 Machine pistol for Axis. Carbine has no recoil and C96 is deadly. Both have limited clips....
The classes have all been simplified so you won't find FG42s, Stosstruppe or carbine classes. There are also no British classes (which is a pity coz I miss the Enfield!)

bind "key" "say You Losers Will Never Take Me Alive;kill"
The hated Hammer Suicide Hack. Grrrrrrrrrrr...
If you've never played Source, you need to prepare yourself for the more realistic weapon physics. The days of MP40 sniping are over (and rightfully so).
And to nitpick Dog:
SMGs are fully automatic weapons which shoot pistol cartridges (9mm, .45 ACP).
The BAR is considered a light machine gun.
The StG44 is considered the world's first assault rifle.
It's all about the cartridge.

Vote Progress Message Box
When voting for a new map, the vote progress box gets in the way as you run around and try to continue playing....(a Mani problem).
It can be easily moved with this fix:

Re: Helping 1.3 players
I think l3eeron posted this link in another thread. This guy put up a great guide to tips and binds for DoD:S.
http://www.mcbrien.plus.com/liam/dodsbinds.htm
I found it to be VERY helpful.

Yes... Its is quite easy..
Just open up your DOD Source options... And change the Previous Weapon and Next weapon like so:
