Plans for Left4DoD v5

Just a couple of thoughts for version 5.

You may have noticed all the helmets lying around, and people tend to ignore them. The next version of L4DoD will use the helmets as a form of currency. Pick them up and add them to your bank.

Helmets will be used to buy things at spawn, such as TNT, Shields, Airstrikes, nades, weapons, etc.
As long as you don't die, you will be able to carry these objects from map to map. You die, you lose them.
The amount of helmets will be stored in a database, so you will have access to buy stuff on any server.

I will also be thinking about achievements....I've been thinking about them since last year, but there are so many other things to do and it's a one-man team!

it sounds kind of counterstrike-ish, but I'm sure you've got it worked out :) look forward to seeing how it ends up

It reminds me of dods rpg and the great hide n blowup other team with tnt game i played. But i doubt it will be as much fun but still a good time

The weapons system will change.

You will get the choice of either Allies or German weapons for your class.
If you want other weapons, you can buy them.
If you want a radio, you can buy it. Likewise for Shield and Pills.

Pick up every helmet!
1 helmet = $1

So current costs in the new system are:
SMGs $10
Rifles $10
Rockets $30
Sniper rifles $40
MGs $100

With that you can get any weapon you want.

Pills $50
Radio $100
Shield $50
Basic Armor $20
Kevlar Armor $40
Health Box $10

Why do this system?

1. There are helmets everywhere
2. It gives players, who play lots, advantages
3. Saves waiting for drops
4. Money can be donated to others (e.g. new players) - a nice community thing
5. If you don't want to use the system, you don't have to and won't affect anything

Version 5 nearly ready for release.
Menu changes will annoy many people who enjoyed mixing and matching weapons but I'm looking to simplify it for new players. One of the many question is: how do I get German weapons?
The new menus make it simple....the German version of the weapon for your class will be at the top of the menu.

If you want the other weapons, then you can change to the correct class and buy a weapon.

Helmets are $1, but there are gold ones for $50 and Ville ones for $10.
Just messing around on the test server, I was able to amass $500 easily.

General test going on, on the Australian server.
Big thanks to Bingler for helping me iron out one or two problems.

Added Hooch and Antigas, but gave them 90 secs instead of 10.
Also added Box of Nades.
I did have ZB on the menu list, but I want it to remain rare and sought after, so I removed it. Besides it is too game changing.

I'm a little hazy on the money thing.

My style is very aggressive, so I die more often than I would if I let someone else take point. If I collected $500 in helmets, then die trying to cap a flag, why would I even bother collecting the things? Or, conversely, why bother capping flags, but instead, collect money?

Could you explain how it works a little more - I think I might be confused.

When you die, you don't lose money.
Capping flags will also give you money.

If you transfer to another server, you still have the same money.
The only way to lose money is to spend it.
